Team News for Shamrock Rovers Game
Cork City make the trip to Tallaght tomorrow evening to take on champions Shamrock Rovers.
City continued their recent good league form into the FAI Cup last week, as they recovered from an early setback to thrash Athlone Town 6-1 at Turner’s Cross. The sides drew 1-1 at Turner’s Cross early on in the season, with Rovers needing an equaliser deep in injury time to salvage a point. Speaking ahead of training this evening, manager Tommy Dunne told CorkCityFC.ie: “We performed reasonably well against Rovers in our previous meeting; they had quite a bit of possession, but we possibly had the more clear-cut chances on the night. I think we are a better side now than we were then.”
“We realise that it will be a tough ask, so we need to start the game well, and move the ball around. I think if we play to our potential and cut out the mistakes that have hurt us on a number of occasions this season, then we will give ourselves a good chance of getting a positive result.”
Shane O’Connor (foot) and knee injury victims Stephen Mulcahy, Kevin Murray and Neal Horgan are all still sidelined, but Jamie Murphy has returned to training this week and will be available. Dan Murray continues to struggle with a groin injury, but will be available if required. Dunne also has doubts over the availability of Colin Healy and Gearóid Morrissey, who have groin injuries, but will assess the pair at training this evening. A more serious concern for the City manager is Davin O’Neill, who has a hip injury and is rated as extremely doubtful.
