Team News for Games v Blackburn Rovers & St. Pat’s.
Cork City face two home games in quick succession over the weekend, as Tommy Dunne’s side face Blackburn Rovers at Turner’s Cross on Sunday at 2 pm in a friendly fixture, and then take on St. Patrick’s Athletic on Monday at 7.45 pm.
Speaking ahead of the Blackburn game, City boss Tommy Dunne said: “The three friendly games have given us an opportunity to give more game time to players who were not involved regularly over the course of the season. Circumstances have meant that the timing of the games has not been absolutely ideal, but nonetheless they have given us a chance to make some changes and give game time to some of those players.”
“It will be a different game to the other two as Blackburn are a team expecting to challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League and are just at the tail end of their pre-season.”
Commenting on Monday’s game against St. Pat’s, Dunne told CorkCityFC.ie that his side will be aiming to take the three points: “In our last game against St. Pat’s, we drew 0-0 at Richmond Park after missing a penalty in the second half. I think the win was there for us on the day, but we did not take the chance when it presented itself.”
“Pat’s have been playing some really good football under Liam Buckley, so it should be a good game, with both sides looking to play. I am hoping that on Monday night we can go one better than a draw, as we have been leaving points behind us, particularly in the last few games.”
On the injury front, Colin Healy is still sidelined with the thigh strain that kept him out of the draw with Dundalk last week, while Graham McCarthy (ankle) and Cathal Lordan (knee) are also ruled out. Defender Eoghan Murphy and goalkeeper Kevin Burns are also both ruled out with ankle injuries. Keigan Parker will miss game against St. Patrick’s Athletic through suspension, but Dunne has confirmed that the striker will play against Blackburn.
