Team News for Drogheda United Game
Following a disappointing 3-1 defeat to UCD on Friday night, Cork City will have an early opportunity to bounce back on Monday night as they welcome Drogheda United to Turner’s Cross.
Cork City manager Tommy Dunne told CorkCityFC.ie that his side need to get back to basics if they are to get a result: “It is an important game for us, and we have to try and pick up a result on Monday. We need to get back to the basics of our game; being tighter as a team and to give ourselves an opportunity to win the game, because we did not do that on Friday night.”
“Drogheda are probably the surprise package in the league this season. They are having a fantastic season. Mick Cooke has done an excellent job there, and he deserves all the credit he gets. They have some excellent attacking players, and they will be difficult opponents for us.”
John Dunleavy suffered an ankle ligament injury in the defeat to UCD, and early signs are that the defender will be sidelined for 3-4 weeks. Both Colin Healy (thigh strain) and Neal Horgan (knee) will be assessed at training on Sunday, with Dunne hopeful that one or both may be available for Monday. Graham McCarthy (ankle), Cathal Lordan (knee), Eoghan Murphy (ankle) and Kevin Burns (ankle) are all still sidelined.
