Cork City FC would like to invite all our supporters to come along wearing City colours to Cork Samaritans second annual “Longest Night” event on the South Mall / Grand Parade between 8pm and 11pm on the longest night of the year, the 21st of December.
Mary, a volunteer with Cork Samaritans, said: “This event came out of the feeling of crisis in Cork last winter, Cork Samaritans felt that we needed to show our support for all those that are finding it hard to cope, for those who have been left behind by tragedy and to show that there was, is and always will be people who care.”
“People often feel that there is no support or services out there for them. We want to show that there is and that help is out there for them. This is why we are inviting other community groups, to join us as we stand with those who need our support, be it on the longest night of the year or at any other time. Our message is that you are not alone.”
“This will be a positive event, as happy and uplifting as possible. We will have many of our volunteers there on the night engaging with the public and handing out information as well as members of other organisations. We hope that you will be able to come this year and stand with us as we stand with those who need support.”
John Caulfield, first team manager said: “We’d like to have a big show of support for the Longest Night event on the 21st. We know that having positive support available, no matter what the situation is, can make a difference to a person. Please come along with your family and friends, wearing a City scarf, hat, jersey, whatever, and let others know that we are here to support those that need it too.”
