Neal is a real rarity in League of Ireland football, in that in all his 33 years he has only plied his trade with one club – if you discount his brief spell with Munster Senior League side Douglas Hall in 2009, of course.

Born in San Francisco, he began his career with local Cork sides Glasheen and Wilton, before beginning his senior career with Cork City in 1999.

Playing at right-back, Horgan put in over 200 steady performances for the Rebel Army, and even turned down a contract offer from MLS side Colorado Rapids to stay with City.

He then quit the game in 2009 for a brief period to concentrate on his Gaelic football career with St. Finbarr’s, before returning to the professional game with City in 2010.
