On behalf of the Board of Management, Staff and Players of Cork City FC, I would like to extend a warm and Happy Christmas to all our friends, both on these shores, and further afield.
While this is a happy and joyful time for most of us, consider those less fortunate. Many of us will have loved ones who have now departed this life, and for us there will always be a certain melancholy about the Christmas period. However, we take comfort from the love of family and friends that surround us at this time. I extend my deepest sympathies to those of you who have lost loved ones in the past year, and are facing into Christmas without them. I hope you take consolation in the knowledge that you are not alone.
This is the season of goodwill, peace and joy. It is the season of celebration, so enjoy it. Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, and for today anyway, petty differences are cast aside and the day is enjoyed for the occasion it is. Football has always played its part in bringing people together, and I always enjoy the story from World War I, when at Christmas English and German troops laid down their arms and played an impromptu game of football.
So today, as you sit down with family and friends for Christmas dinner, spare a thought for our friends who have to face into work today. Nurses, Doctors, Paramedics, Gardaí, the Fire Service and many others, will all go about their day’s work today, as though it was any other day, all for us to have a safe and peaceful day.
From all of us at Cork City FC, I sincerely hope you have an enjoyable and peaceful festive season, a prosperous New Year, and look forward to seeing you all for the 2013 season.
