Cork City FC’s Brian Lenihan was on hand to show his support along with RTE’s John Healy at Haulbowline Naval Base over the weekend, to highlight the launch of the ‘Have a Heart’ event in aid of the Mater Heart & Lung Appeal. The fundraising event, which will take place on Saturday March 2nd at the Naval Base, is to highlight not only the awareness of organ donation, but also the risks of heart disease, stroke & SADS. All the proceeds will go directly to the Mater Heart & Lung Appeal which aims to give support to patients waiting for such a transplant.
Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS) is unfortunately becoming more and more common amongst sporting activities in all ages, so it is vital that awareness is raised about the importance of sports people keeping a closer eye on their heart health and overall health. Brian, who signed a two year contract with Cork City FC late last year, was keen to show his support and help raise awareness of the issue.
Sarah Jordan, pictured above with Brian, received a successful heart transplant last May and has been asked to represent Ireland in the International Transplant Games next year. The care she received at The Mater Hospital was vital to her successful recovery, and this event will help to ensure it is available to others when needed.
It promises to be a great night with MC Mr. John Healy, Maitre d’RTE’s “The Restaurant” who is also a successful Heart Transplant Recipient. There will also be a drinks reception, raffle and auction on the night with entertainment by ‘Deja Vu’ and Cork’s own ‘Natural Gas’. Tickets are €25 and are available from Walsh’s Pharmacy, Carrigaline or by calling 087 764 1896.
