U19 Cup: Rovers 1-2 City

Two late goals from Greg Harte ensured the Under 19’s a Quarter Final berth in two weeks time as City battled back from a calamitous end to the first half to earn a deserved win in Tallaght Stadium on Saturday.

The first half had  looked like ending scoreless with both defences on top, but James Nagle was unlucky to see his attempt to cut out a right wing cross end up in his own net to send the hosts in at the break with a narrow advantage.

City played the bulk of the enterprising football in the second half, and their patience was duly rewarded on 84 minutes when Conor Ellis got between two defenders to unselfishly square the ball for Harte to equalise.

It took just another four minutes for Harte to double his tally for the day. The always enterprising Anthony McAlavey beat his man on the left side to feed Harte just inside the area for the striker to emphatically finish high to the net.
The Under 19’s return to league action next weekend when they travel to the Carlisle Grounds to face Bray Wanderers as they look to further narrow the gap with Shelbourne at the top of the table.
