Ireland international Healy has been back at the club for a second spell since the beginning of the 2012 season and will continue to lead the line in midfield, while 2014 will be Mark McNulty’s 11th year with CCFC – having claimed City’s number one shirt as his own in 2010. Twenty-year-old Buckley, meanwhile, forged into Cork City’s starting XI on a regular basis last season and is keen to improve even further over the coming 12 months.
“I’m delighted,” Buckley told CorkCityFC.ie. “When I spoke to John, he had a very positive outlook on things. He made up my mind for me and I can’t wait to get back going. The new signings show John’s intent in being competitive. Anthony (Elding) will bring goals, Darren (Murphy) also brings a lot – and they are two good additions to the squad.”
Speaking about his new manager, the club’s former U19 double-winning captain added: “(John’s) been very positive. He’s not coming in for the sake of it – he really wants to win things. Being a Cork City man himself, he knows the expectations that come with the club and I’m looking forward to working with him.
“I want to make as many appearances as I can next season but I also want to win things. A nice Cup run, top 4 in the league – but, for me personally, I want to top last year by making more appearances.”
