Despite taking an early lead in the Carlisle Grounds on Saturday afternoon, the Under 19’s ended up on the losing end of a match they never looked like winning.
This was possibly their poorest display of the season with the side lucky not to be behind after five minutes when Michal Sadys had to deflect a Bray effort onto the crossbar as the home side started brightly. City took the lead on 12 minutes though, when Darren Murphy converted a spot kick after Conor Ellis had been fouled in the area.
Bray were good value for their equaliser from Corey Franzoni’s scrambled effort before the break. He doubled his tally soon after the restart, his header beating Sady’s to the ball and was unlucky not to complete his hat trick with a shot coming back off the upright. Substitute Sean Leavey completed the scoring for the home side, firing home from the edge of the box to complete a forgettable day for the visitors.
A significant improvement in performance will be required next weekend if they are to progress in the Enda McGuill Cup, as City must again travel to Bray in an effort to book a semi final spot. Again this game will be on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
