Cork City FC manager John Caulfield has lauded the performances of Sean Maguire, which have seen the striker secure a move to Preston North End.
Maguire will join up with the Deepdale outfit at the end of July on a three-year deal and the City boss said the move is well deserved.
“Since coming in to the club Seani has been fantastic for us. His attitude, work rate, determination and mental toughness has got him to this position and this is a fantastic opportunity for him.
“When he joined us, he was a bit low in confidence but he settled in quickly with this incredible bunch of players and showed he had the resilience and determination to find his form and get his self belief back.”
Maguire has been in sensational form since he joined the club at the start of last season, with 29 goals in 2016. As well as scoring in the club’s Europa League run last season, the 23-year-old finished as the league’s top goalscorer and famously netted a last-minute winner in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup final last November.
His rich vein of form has continued into 2017, with 19 goals to date including a hat trick against Dundalk in Oriel Park last Friday night.
Caulfield said, “He has been scoring goals, his work rate is phenomenal and we know he’ll continue to do that in the rest of his time here.
“Whilst you never want to lose a player of Seani’s quality, we are delighted to have worked with Preston so that he can remain with us until the end of July.
“We’ve had a very strong start to the campaign, the lads have a well-deserved break now to recharge their batteries and get ready for a massive second half of the season and that’s our focus now.”
