Ahead of the start of the 2018 national league season starting this weekend, Cork City FC are pleased to announce the signing of Savannah McCarthy.
20-year-old Savannah has joined Cork City from Glasgow City. The Kerry native began her playing career with Listowel Celtic. From there, she played in the Women’s National League with Galway WFC before signing for Glasgow City in 2016.
Savannah has represented, and captained, Ireland at Under 17 and Under 19 level, and gained her first senior cap at the Cyprus Cup in 2016 against Austria.
Savannah returns to the Women’s National League this season signing for Cork City, where she will be reunited with ex-Glasgow City teammate Clare Shine.
Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, Savannah said: “I’m delighted to be back on home soil and playing football in the Women’s National League again. It’s been a couple of years since I last played here so I’m really looking forward to getting games under my belt and starting this new chapter with Cork. This is a really great club that’s coming through the ranks rapidly. They’re massively improving, and all the girls and staff have been so welcoming to me. I enjoyed my time in Glasgow, but I thought it was time for me to return home. I’m excited for the season ahead.”
Manager Frank Kelleher expressed his delight of the recent signing, saying: “My staff and I have been working hard in the off season re-signing most of our squad from last season, and bringing in several new faces. Savannah’s addition is a real message of intent from the club, and I’m thrilled to have her signed and competing for us this season.”
Our women’s team have signed a strong squad of players for the season ahead and, on what is International Women’s Day, all of them will be revealed during today on our social media channels.
