Team news & coverage for Dundalk game

Cork City return to league action after the mid-season break, as they travel to Oriel Park to face Dundalk.

City come into the game on the back of a home win against Bohemians before the break, a result which made it seven league wins in a row. Their last away fixture was a 2-0 victory at the Showgrounds against Sligo Rovers.

The home side come into the game in equally impressive form, with eight wins on the spin. Their last outing before the break was an impressive 4-0 win away to Derry City. Their last tie at Oriel Park was also a 4-0 win, against Limerick.

The sides have met twice in the league this year, with each side winning their home tie by a goal to nil. They also met at Oriel Park in the President’s Cup, with City recording a 4-2 win after being two behind at the interval.

Speaking ahead of the game, City boss John Caulfield said:

“We are back in after the break this week and all looking forward to the game. We have a few knocks and bruises, but we would hope that most players would be ok. We will certainly give them all every chance to be available, right up to kick-off.”

“We know it will be a very tough, intense game. Games between the two teams have been really close over the last few years, and we expect nothing different this time around. Like we always do, we are going there to try and win the match. Over the last number of years, we have had some really good results there, but we know we need to be at our best tomorrow. We know that, if we perform to our best, then we feel we can get the points.”

“I think it is a good game for us, coming back from the break. A lot of the lads did work themselves over the break, and their physical condition is excellent. Training has been excellent all week; since last Sunday, everyone has been on the button and ready to go, and that’s the way we need it to be.”

Karl Sheppard, Steven Beattie, Alan Bennett and Gearóid Morrissey have all had knocks and will be assessed ahead of the game.
