Cork City fell to a 3-0 defeat at Ferrycarrig Park as Wexford Youths secured the 2018 Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League on Saturday evening.
Wexford started the game on the front foot pushing the City defence hard and very nearly took an early lead after Aisling Frawley set up Katrina Parrock but she missed the chance. She however would make up for that miss when a Kylie Murphy cross found her and she finished with a controlled volley into the bottom corner. Wexford made it two on the half hour mark when Kylie Murphy found Emma Hansberry who finished well past Amanda Budden.
City pressed to try and get back into the game and while they pushed the Wexford defence back they failed to create much in the way of clear cut chances with their best effort being a Maggie Duncliffe free kick finding the head of Savannah McCarthy whose effort was saved.
The second half continued much in the way of the first half as Wexford continued to have much of the possession and pressed the City defence. Eve Badana on at half time made a good save to keep McKenna Davidson out in the 51st minute. She again made a good save to deny Aisling Frawley after she had been set up by Emma Hansberry.
City tried to get into the game but again failed to test the Wexford goalkeeper. Wexford wrapped up the three points and the League Title in injury time as Lauren Dwyer headed home a corner kick and the game finished 3-0 to Wexford.
