Cork City take on Longford Town at Mayfield United tomorrow, in their final pre-season friendly ahead of the President’s Cup on February 9th.
Speaking ahead of the game, City boss John Caulfield told CorkCityFC.ie: “We are all looking forward to the game. In team news, Tadhg Ryan is out and there is a doubt over Karl Sheppard, but everyone else is available. Longford are obviously managed by Neale Fenn, an ex-City player, and he has done a great job since going in there.
“They play excellent football and they have good team. We beat them well in the cup quarter final last year, so we know about them, but they have done very well under Neale and this is a big season for them. They are one of the favourites for the First Division, and it is a good game for us.”
“The fitness levels are good; down here, it can be hard to get games against other League of Ireland teams, so you would expect Longford tomorrow is going to be our biggest test so far. Everyone knows we lost nine players from last year’s squad, we have brought in a lot of new, young players and they have all bedded in quickly and trained hard. We are two weeks from the start of the season and we are very happy with the way things have gone.”
Caulfield also confirmed that the Munster Senior Cup semi-final against Cobh Ramblers is expected to be played this coming Tuesday, with full details of the fixture to be confirmed shortly.
