This Saturday Cork City start their 2019 Women’s National League campaign away to Peamount United in Greenogue. Kick-off 6.30PM.
Cork City will have new signings Abby McCarthy, Lauren Egbuloniu, Liz O’Connor, Shauna McCarthy available as well as Stacey Paul O’Regan, who returns to the club having most recently played in 2017. However, Christina Dring, Eadaoin Lyons and Eve Badana are all unavailable and Saoirse Noonan will miss the game through injury.
City manager Rónán Collins feels his team have put in a big effort in pre season to be ready for Saturday’s opener.
“We are really looking forward to the game, it has been a long off-season and the team have put in a lot of work. We expect that to pay off as the season progresses. We have brought more competition into the squad this season and players are going to get opportunities to stake a claim in the team over the first few games.”
Speaking on Saturday’s opponents, Collins is aware of the threats posed by the Dublin outfit.
“Peamount are always a very good footballing side who move the ball quickly. They have a lot of fire power so we’re going to have to be good in both boxes, that will be key in our performance.”
