CCFC v Dundalk – Team news & coverage

Cork City are at home for the second Friday in succession, as they face Dundalk at Turner’s Cross.

City come into the game having recorded back to back wins for the first time this season, winning 1-0 away to Bohemians before claiming a 2-0 victory over UCD last Friday. The visitors arrive on Leeside having gone top of the table last Friday with a 2-0 win against Bohs at Dalymount Park.

The sides have met twice already this season with the Co. Louth side on top so far; they claimed a 2-1 win at Turner’s Cross in the President’s Cup in February and followed that up with a 1-0 win at Oriel Park in March.

Speaking ahead of the game, interim First Team manager John Cotter said: “All you can do is take things game by game. Training has been very good; the two wins have helped to build a bit of confidence and, hopefully, we can go out tomorrow and put in another good performance in front of a good crowd.”

“Dundalk were missing a few key players earlier in the season, so there was no doubt that they would climb up the table when they got them back. We have had some great games against them over the years and hopefully tomorrow will be another. We hope we can put in a good performance and get the crowd going, because they always play a massive part. These are the games you want to be involved in, whether as a player or a part of the management staff.”

“The crowd should never underestimate the role they have to play and have played up to now. I hope that we have another loud, passionate crowd at Turner’s Cross tomorrow night because the players and the staff all respond to that. Last week, against UCD, they played a massive part, particularly early in the second half when UCD had a bit of pressure, but the crowd stayed with the team and encouraged them, and we went on to score a second and win the game.”

Cian Murphy is definitely ruled out, while Gearóid Morrissey, Dan Casey, Graham Cummins and Pierce Phillips have all suffered with knocks during the week and will be assessed ahead of the game. Garry Buckley misses out through suspension.
