Cork City will face UCD for the third time in a matter of weeks, as they travel to Belfield on Monday.
The sides met at the same venue in April, with the home side coming from behind to win 2-1 late on, but City claimed the points in their last meeting, winning 2-0 at Turner’s Cross on May 10th.
City come into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Dundalk, while their last away game saw them win 1-0 against Bohemians at Dalymount Park. The home side sit bottom of the table having endured a run of defeats since that win over City some weeks ago; their last outing saw Shamrock Rovers claim a 1-0 win at the Belfield Bowl.
Speaking ahead of the game, interim City manager John Cotter said: “It is a great opportunity to have another game so quickly, to put things right and hopefully get another three points. There is no time for anyone to feel sorry for themselves, you have to pick yourself up and get going again, which we started doing from yesterday morning.”
“UCD obviously lost to Rovers on Friday night, and we only played them ten days ago ourselves. They are side we know well, we have played them twice in a short space of time, so we know their strengths and their weaknesses. It is a game we played well in just over a week ago, so we will be looking to implement our own game plan and hopefully get the three points.”
“We gave away two sloppy goals (on Friday night) and we have spoken about that. You have to take the positives though and I thought that, at times, we played quite well and created chances, so we would hope to take those chances on Monday if we do create them.”
Garry Buckley returns to the fold after missing Friday’s game through suspension, but Cian Murphy is ruled out for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury. Gearoid Morrissey, Shane Griffin and Dan Casey are all doubts and will be assessed ahead of the trip.
