Sligo Rovers v CCFC – Team news & coverage

Cork City face a trip to the Showgrounds on Friday, as they face Sligo Rovers in the last game before the mid-season break.

The Rebel Army come into the game having not played since the 1-1 draw against St Pat’s on May 31st, with international call-ups seeing last weekend’s game against Waterford postponed. The home side played out a 1-1 draw last weekend, also against St. Pat’s, and now sit two places and two points ahead of City in the Premier Division table.

Speaking at his weekly press conference in Bishopstown, John Cotter said: “Sligo is always tough, but we’ve had a decent record away from home this year. Whether you’re in Turner’s Cross or away from home, the main thing is that you do your work and that you’re prepared for it. The last couple of weeks have given us a chance to do that, so hopefully on Friday we can put in a performance, play well and come away with a result.”

“They frustrated us that night (in Turner’s Cross), Darragh Rainsford had a great chance at the end where he takes it and it hits Mitchell Beeney in the face, but when chances like that come along, you need to take them. Even two weeks ago, we didn’t. Hopefully if we do create those chances on Friday, we’ll be in a better position to take them.”

Seán McLoughlin and Conor McCormack will both miss the game through suspension, while Cotter must also plan without Cian Murphy, Shane Griffin and Pierce Phillips, who all miss out through injury.
