Cork City fell to a 5-0 at Tolka Park on Saturday 15th of June in their latest Só Hotels Women’s National League match.
Shelbourne dominated the opening exchanges putting the City defence under severe pressure coming close through Emily Whelan, Rebecca Cooke and Alex Kavanagh but the City defence held firm for the opening 20 minutes. The pressure eventually told and Shelbourne took the lead in the 21st minute after some good build-up play Emily Whelan applied the finishing touch to give Shelbourne a 1-0 lead.
City grew into the game after the concession with Megan Sheehan coming close after being set up by Katie McCarthy but Amanda McQuillan was able to smother the chance. McQuillan again had to be alert to deny Sheehan after she was set up by Christina Dring a few minutes later. City however would concede a second right at the end of the first half as Alannah McEvoy headed home an Alex Kavanagh free kick to make it 2-0 to Shelbourne at the end of the first half.
Shelbourne started the second half much the stronger of the two sides and their dominance showed in the 55th minute from the penalty spot when Jaime Finn was judged by the referee to have been fouled in the penalty are, Alex Kavanagh stepped up and put it away to make it 3-0. They swiftly made it four as Emily Whelan got her second as she finished from close range. Kate Mooney finished off the scoring in the 75th minute as she scored the 5th goal with a good finish and while Shelbourne continued to look for a 6th the game ended 5-0.
