Cork City welcome Preston North End to Turner’s Cross on Monday night, in a Cork Airport Friendly fixture.
City come into the game on the back of a 0-0 draw against Bohemians at the same venue on Friday night, while the visitors had a 2-0 win away to Bamber Bridge on Saturday.
Speaking ahead of the game, City Head Coach John Cotter said: “We want every player to be as fit as possible, when they are available to play, so it is a great opportunity to give fellas some minutes with some important games coming up. A lot of the lads who played against Bohs on Friday are still in recovery at this stage, so the lads who didn’t start need the minutes and it is a really good opportunity for them and for some of younger players who have been doing very well with the Under 19s. A lot of these lads have been training pretty much full-time since the end of their exams, so it is a real opportunity for them.”
“It will be a great game for us to have and, hopefully, a good game for Preston as well. They are obviously in Fota for the week, which is a great facility, so hopefully they will get the benefit of the week and the game as well. They obviously have a number of players who are well-known to everyone here, especially Seani Maguire, but also Alan Browne and Adam O’Reilly. It will be great for the Cork public to come out and see these lads back in Turner’s Cross, and get the chance to show their appreciation to them.”
“I know Seani loved his time here and is still very close to a lot of the players here. We have all watched his career closely and he has gone on to bigger and better things, becoming a regular in the international squad as well, so we all hope he kicks on and does even better in the season ahead.”
