Cork City will be hoping to make it three wins from three in the Só Hotels Women’s National League as they travel to Eamonn Deacy Park to face Galway WFC this Saturday 27th of July with a 6pm kick off.
City made it two wins from two last Sunday as they beat Kilkenny United 7-1 with goals from Zara Foley, Ciara McNamara, Christina Dring, Katie McCarthy Megan Sheehan, and two goals from Saoirse Noonan. Cork City manager Rónán Collins looking back on that result and the work they have been doing in training to prepare for the Galway game: “We had a really good performance last week especially in the first half we played with a lot of flow and moved the ball really well. This week we’re looking to build on that. It’ll be a different challenge and we’ve looked at different areas of our game in accordance with that.”
When City last faced Galway they fell to a 3-5 defeat and City will be looking to improve on that result, Collins reflected on that and the challenge facing City this Saturday: “Galway have been very good this season. Billy continues to grow his team and they are always tough competitors. We were disappointed not to get anything from the game earlier in the season when and we will be looking to change that this time around.”
Cork City midfielder Katie McCarthy also spoke ahead of the Galway match: “We are coming from two good wins and a good team performance last week. Our aim is to kick on this weekend and get another 3 points on the board. Galway always come with energy and we know we can match that.”
Cork City will be without Shaunagh McCarthy, Savannah McCarthy and Lauren Egbuloniu through injury but Nathalie O’Brien and Sarah Jones return to the squad after missing the Kilkenny game through illness.
