FAI Women’s Cup: Wilton v CCFC

Cork City enter the Só Hotels FAI Women’s Senior Cup first round with a Cork Derby against Wilton United at Pat Bowdren Park this Sunday with a 2pm kick off.

Cork City and Wilton United are two of three Cork teams in the first round this year and Cork City manager Rónán Collins was looking forward to the game on Sunday: “This weekend is a great occasion to be involved in.  To have 3 teams in the hat for the FAI cup is testament to football in the county.  It’s a pity we had to meet so early. Wilton have always been a good footballing team who move the ball well.  They have lots of experience and quality.  It’ll make for a really good game with two teams who get the ball down and play.  It would be great to see the footballing public of Cork come out to watch. The squad is competitive every week and again we have players battling for positions.”

City this week added Under 17 forward Nadine Seward to their senior squad to add to the squad options but had worse news on Savanah McCarthy and Shaunagh McCarthy, as Collins revealed: “Shaunagh and Savannah both got news on their injuries.  They’ll be out for a while so we’d like to wish them both the best in their operations and speedy recoveries.  They’re really important players to the squad as players, staff and a club we are all behind them.  No doubt they’ll come back stronger and better.”

City will be without Lauren Egbuloniu, Savannah McCarthy and Shaunagh McCarthy due to injury while Nadine Seward and Sophie Liston are doubts.

Injured: Lauren Egbuloniu, Savannah McCarthy, Shaunagh McCarthy

Suspended: None

Absent: Emma Farmer, Saoirse Noonan.
