Derry City v CCFC – Team news and coverage

Cork City are on the road this week, as they make the long journey to the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium to face third-placed Derry City on Friday evening.

The Leesiders are still in search of their first victory since the arrival of new Head Coach Neale Fenn after they were held to a 0-0 draw against ninth-placed Finn Harps last Friday. Derry City will be looking to pick up a valuable three points in their bid to pip Bohemians to a third-place finish.

The most recent meeting between the sides saw the Candystripes hand City a heavy home defeat, running out 4-1 winners in Turner’s Cross in June.

With Head Coach Neale Fenn away on the pro licence course, Liam Kearney was on press conference duty in Bishopstown. He spoke about the impressive season that Friday’s opponents are currently enjoying:

“Derry are flying. They’ve had a great season and Declan has done a great job up there. He’s really galvanised the whole city of Derry. The play with a lot of pace around the pitch. We know going up there, that we’ll want to keep it tight. We don’t want to concede early and, as the game progresses, we’ll feel our way into it and try to get at them.”

Goalkeeper Tadhg Ryan was also present, and he spoke of his joy at breaking into the starting eleven in recent weeks: “I’m delighted. With the new manager coming in, there’s always going to be an opportunity there. I’m delighted to get my first few competitive games in. I’m loving it.”

“You can say what you want about this season, but we’ve got to remedy it quickly. We’ve got to try and make sure we get some positive results to build a foundation for next year.”

On the injury front, Kearney confirmed that City are still without Ronan Hurley, who is struggling with a calf problem, and Kevin O’Connor missing out with a nerve problem in his elbow. Cian Bargary and Cian Murphy are also still out.
