CCFC v UCD – Team news and coverage

Cork City are back in home league action on Friday evening, as they face UCD in their penultimate home match of the season. A first win for City under new head coach Neale Fenn would all but confirm their status as a Premier Division club next season.

City come into the match off the back off two consecutive league defeats, both coming away from home to Derry and Bohemians. The Students travel to Turner’s Cross after a draw against Finn Harps who are also battling for Premier Division survival.

Speaking at his weekly press conference ahead of the game, Neale Fenn said: “It’s a huge game for us, depending on how the result goes at Shamrock Rovers. We’re not too overly concerned with how other teams are doing, we just need to concentrate on ourselves because we need a result. I felt that in patches we played well, it’s just putting the ball is the net is the problem, which is obvious for everyone to see. If we could correct that on Friday, we’ll be alright. Against Bohs, both teams were evenly matched, it was just a stroke of luck that went their way and they end up winning it.”

On the injury front, Fenn gave an update on some players who haven’t been involved in the last number of weeks: “Ronan Hurley’s still out, but he’s back jogging on the pitch. That’s good for us to know that he’ll hopefully be available for next week. Kevin O’Connor has been back in training and is available.” Cian Bargary and Cian Murphy are both still sidelined.
