Cork City played out a 2-2 draw against Galway at Bishopstown on Sunday in their latest Só Hotels Women’s National League match with goals from Saoirse Noonan and Christina Dring.
The first half started a very even affair with neither side really testing the goalkeepers until the 15th minute when a Zara Foley corner found Saoirse Noonan at the back post and she headed it home powerfully to give City a 1-0 lead. City’s lead didn’t last long however with Galway immediately going up to the other end of the pitch and forcing City goalkeeper Maria O’Sullivan into a spectacular save. The resulting corner wasn’t cleared by the City defence and was eventually forced home by Chloe Singleton to make it 1-1.
Galway started to really dominate much of the first half forcing more good saves from O’Sullivan and eventually found a way through in the 40th minute when a good ball found Sadhbh Doyle free in the penalty box and she powered it home to give Galway a 2-1 lead at half time.
City started the second half much the stronger side with an effort from Eabha O’Mahony going just wide in the 49th minute. City continued to press for an equaliser with efforts from Christina Dring and Saoirse Noonan who had an effort hit the crossbar after excellent work from Christina Dring to set her up. City got the equaliser in the 75th minute after some good work from second half substitute Sophie Liston to win the ball and passed it to Saoirse Noonan who found Christina Dring who scored with a well-placed effort from the edge of the box.
City continued to dominate the game for the rest of the second half pushing for a winner and came close thanks to efforts from Christina Dring, Zara Foley and Sophie Liston who’s shot was well saved by Ria McPhilbin in the Galway goal but they couldn’t find the winner and the game finished 2-2.
