Cork City FC were delighted to be named Club of the Season for a third year running at the SSE Airtricity League Club awards at the Knightsbrook Hotel in Meath yesterday afternoon.
The club also picked up the Best Matchday Experience and Best Overall Marketing awards, and received commendations for Multimedia Club of the Year, Best Family Initiative and Supporters Contribution. After a difficult year on the pitch, our off-field staff were thrilled to have their work, as well as the work of our dedicated matchday volunteers recognised at the annual awards.
Speaking at the event, Paul Wycherley, General Manager, said, ‘We are delighted, and humbled, to win the League of Ireland Club of the Season, for the third year running. Not only did we win the main award, but altogether finishing in the top two of six of the seven categories out of all 20 clubs, is a magnificent achievement for the club.
While the results on the pitch didn’t go as he’d hoped this past season, we have continued to achieve positive results off the pitch, working harder and more creatively than ever. These awards are recognition for that work, and in particular for the hard-working staff, and volunteers, at the club. I can’t praise them enough.’
In particular, the judges commented on how hard-working, detailed, innovative and far-reaching the club were across all areas, while also continuing to develop everywhere off the pitch to retain the main award.
