John Kennedy, RIP

Everyone at Cork City Football Club is devastated by the news that John Kennedy has sadly passed away. Our thoughts go out to John’s family, and his many friends.

John, a volunteer at the club for over 30 years, and a former Board of Management member, was known by League of Ireland supporters around the country, for his loyalty, enthusiasm and love of Cork City FC. Through the Family Enclosure, John organised buses getting supporters to and from almost every away game, and was a recognisable face to all Rebel Army supporters.

It was through John and his work with the Family Enclosure that so many of us first came to experience Turner’s Cross, and ultimately fall in love with our club. John made it so that all families had a fun, colourful and noisy experience when they visited the Cross, and many returned. John was the epicentre for our club’s role and work in the community, which made our club a home for many of those less fortunate. He will be missed by all of us, but he will never be forgotten.

City chairman Declan Carey said “His passing has come as a shock to us all. This is an extremely sad time for John’s family and friends. Our thoughts are with them all at this very difficult time and we will support them whatever way we can. The club will continue to honour the legacy John has left behind and the endless work and support he has given the club will never be forgotten.”

Operations manager Éanna Buckley said: “John was a friend, a mentor, a colleague and an inspiration to myself and everyone involved in the club. From when I first started going to games in my teens to working side by side with him when I joined the club, John was a massive presence and a wonderful club man. He embodied everything that is good about our club and we are all utterly devastated at this news.”

Our deepest condolences to his family and many friends.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis.

“City ’til I die, and beyond.”

The Management and Staff of Atomic Security wish to convene our very deepest and heartfelt condolences to the family of John F Kennedy. While many of our staff were seasoned Cork City supporters and know the club well; some were yet to understand the wonderful club in which John took so much pride in. But regardless of who you were John welcomed each and every member of staff equally and with open arms at each game. He shared his wealth of wisdom, experience and courtesy to all of us. The world gives us some unique and generous people and without doubt John was one of these people. His life and soul was felt in every part of Turners cross. We will forever be grateful to him and will keep his memory in our hearts. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. The Management and Staff of Atomic Security

Sincerest condolences to Chris, Aaron and Grace. John's other family at CCFC will be there for you in any way we can be. John's life was an example to us all and not too many people ever get to have that said about them. But it is so true. He loved football, of course, but it was also a medium for him to achieve so much that made so many people happier, feel better about themselves, brightened their lives or gave them something to really look forward to at the end of the week. He got stuff done and he had a beautiful way about him that hooked you in to doing stuff for him without you realising it. You just couldn't say no to John. We all have our memories of John, tumbling in a mad mix of his booming voice, his broad smile, his humour, his care. We'll cherish these memories forever. JFK had countless friends, I am very thankful to have been among them. Sleep easy, buddy, you have long earned your rest.

John will be a hugh loss to Cork City fc and Cork City in general for his work in the community. The family enclosure will never be the same, now that the maestro won't be there to conduct not just the kids but adults too. He was as much about match day as the game itself. The shed is the shed but John put the family enclosure right up there with it. I would now add my voice to the calls for the renaming of the stand to The John Kennedy Stand. R.i.p John and my condolences to his family on their great loss. City till I die and beyond. From Carrigtwohill United FC.
