Cork City fell to a 3-0 defeat against Peamount at Greenogue on Saturday in their latest Women’s National League match.
City had the first chance of the game with a driving run from Sophie Liston who tried to find Christina Dring but the pass was intercepted and cleared. Lucy McCartan gave Peamount the lead in the 14th minute with an excellent strike from distance to make it 1-0. They quickly doubled their lead when Karen Duggan struck from close range to make it 2-0.
Peamount almost made it three in the 26th and 28th minute but Abby McCarthy in the City goal did well to intercept and stop both efforts. Peamount did make it three in the 35th with Aine O’Gorman getting on the score sheet with a cool finish.
The second half continued in the same vein as the first half as Peamount continued the pressure into the second half with early chances in the second half which went just wide. Aine O’Gorman swung in a dangerous free kick which was punched clear by Abby McCarthy. At the other end Sophie Liston managed to get forward to threaten after a quick one-two with Lauren Egbuloniu but the effort was deflected and blocked.
Peamount continued to press for a fourth goal and Abby McCarthy was called into action to make a superb double save to keep it at three in the 69th minute. McCarthy was again called on to make another superb double save to deny Aine O’Gorman. While both sides continued to press for a goal there was little in the way of real chances for the rest of the game and it finished 3-0 to Peamount.
Next up for City is Wexford Youths WFC on Sunday 22nd of November in the Women’s National League at Bishopstown.
