Cork City FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Jess Lawton as manager of the club’s Under 19 Women’s side.
Lawton, who is currently Performance Coach of the Club’s senior Women’s team, becomes manager of the side ahead of the proposed inaugural season of the U19 Women’s National League.
Speaking after being confirmed as manager, Lawton said: “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to manage the U19 side for the coming season. Being involved in such a professionally run set up and working with excellent staff since coming in, as well as the many opportunities I received both as a player and manager in my home club, Youghal Utd, has really helped me to develop in the game.
I have been lucky enough to work closely with these excellent players over the last two seasons and I’m excited to help them continue their progress as players and people. We have made great strides over the last number of seasons and the addition of an U19 team and continued hard work over the coming season will help us continue to kick on. A massive thank you to the club for giving me this opportunity and we are looking forward to getting pre-season underway.”
Senior manager Rónán Collins highlighted the work Lawton has done so far at City, and knows that she will be crucial in the development of the players: “Jess has been such a great asset since she came into the club. She fits into the very fabric of everything we try do at City and she has had a huge impact on players and coaches already.
There is a great group of players with the U19s and I think they will be all delighted to see that Jess will be their manager for the season ahead. There is nobody more able to help them continue their progression and prepare players to make the step up to the senior team in the future.”
