Cork City FC are back on the road on Friday evening, travelling to the Carlisle Grounds for the first time since July 2018 to face Bray Wanderers.
The Rebel Army will be looking to put a halt to their run of four consecutive losses, after last Friday’s defeat to Treaty United at the Markets Field, while the hosts are still in search of their first victory of the season having picked up four points from four draws and suffering defeat at home to Athlone on matchday four.
Speaking at the weekly press conference, City boss Colin Healy said he knows his side need to pick up points on Friday evening: “We’ve lost four in a row now, and that’s difficult to take. We’re giving away goals too easily at the moment. I know the standards that we set here at the club, and four defeats in a row isn’t good enough.
Bray are a very good side. I worked with a few of them in the international set up, so I know it’s going to be a difficult game on Friday night. They’re strong defensively, but they’re also good going forward. Training has been good this week, as it always is. We’ve put our game plan together for Friday night, and we know we need to start putting more points on the board.”
Midfielder Alec Byrne also spoke to the media, and he spoke of how the squad’s focus moves onto Friday: “It’s obviously very disappointing, but when you come in on a Monday, you need to wipe it off, get ready and go again. We need to make sure we get a good result on Friday because we know it hasn’t been good enough in recent weeks. Every game is huge in this league. It’s still early in the season, so we’re not too worried, but we know we need to start putting in better performances and picking up results.”
City will be boosted by the return of Jack Walsh, who returns having served a suspension for the red card he picked up against Shelbourne. Steven Beattie and Cory Galvin are still out, while Gearóid Morrissey may feature.
You can buy a season pass for €79, or purchase a single match pass for just €5. You can also buy a 2021 Cork City FC Season Card, which gets you a stream pass as well as many other benefits.
