Team news ahead of Wexford game!

Cork City FC will be looking to build on last week’s draw away to Bray Wanderers as they face Wexford FC at Turner’s Cross on Friday night. That draw brought an end to a run of four consecutive defeats, and also marked City’s first clean sheet in the league this season. Wexford come into the game without a point thus far this season. They suffered a heavy defeat against UCD last time out, with two goalkeepers seeing red in the fixture, but their opening four games were all decided by a solitary goal. Speaking at his weekly press conference, City manager Colin Healy was looking to build on the positives of their most recent outing: “It’s good to get a point on the board, because it wasn’t good in the weeks leading up to that. I thought we were solid defensively; we were hard to break down and we will take the positives out of it. We had a good shape to us, we worked hard, and we got a good point.” “Every game in this league is tough. I know Brian (O’Sullivan) and I know they will put it up to us on Friday; it will be another tough game. We need to be better than we have been. It is still early in the season, but can we be better than we have been? Absolutely. Hopefully, we can start getting some points on the board over the next few games.” “We have young players, hungry players who will give absolutely everything for the club. They showed that on Friday night. We can definitely be better, and hopefully we can show that on Friday night against Wexford. Wexford will be coming here with a point to prove, so we have to be ready for them.” Defender Gordon Walker impressed after he came back into the side last Friday, and he spoke about the lift that performance gave the squad: “I think we needed to put in a good performance, both for ourselves and for the fans. After four defeats, getting that point is huge and will do our confidence a lot of good. Coming out of that, I think a lot of the lads were happy with how we defended and went forward as well, so I think it has given us a bit more belief, which you could see in training this week.” “There is never going to be a game that you can look at as a banker for three points. It is probably the most competitive First Division in a long time, but we will go into the game on Friday night believing that we can win it.” George Heaven and Gearóid Morrissey are both rated as touch and go for the game, having missed the last two games with injury, while Steven Beattie and Cory Galvin are still out.
