Cork City fell to a 3-1 defeat against Peamount United at Greenogue in their latest SSE Airtiricty Women’s National League game on Saturday. The first half was an even affair with chances at either end for both sides, after a cagey opening with no real chances for either side Peamount took the lead in the 17th minute as Aine O’Gorman making a run down the right wing to the touchline squared it for Eleanor Ryan Doyle who finished well to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. City started coming into the game with chances of their own, Sarah McKevitt had a free kick saved by the Peamount goalkeeper Naoisha McAloon in the 25th minute. While in the 33rd minute Eabha O’Mahony was set loose by Sarah McKevitt but O’Mahony’s shot was well saved. City got the equaliser in the 43rd minute; an Eabha O’Mahony corner found Becky Cassin who’s header on goal was McAloon managed to tip onto the crossbar but Eva Mangan was on hand with the follow up to tap it home to make it 1-1 at half time. The second half continued to be an even affair with both sides having chances to take the lead. City came closest when Christina Dring was sent through on goal in the 52nd minute but her effort was well saved by McAloon. Peamount eventually gained the upper hand and retook the lead in the 70th minute when Eleanor Ryan Doyle got her second goal heading home a Megan Smyth Lynch corner. Peamount gradually took control of the game and pressed the City defence further. They guaranteed the three points in the 83rd minute as Eleanor Ryan Doyle knocked on a ball into the path of Aine O’Gorman who finished well from the edge of the box to make it 3-1 which it finished. Next up for Cork City is the visit of Treaty United to Turners Cross next Saturday 22nd of May with a 2pm kick off.
