WNL: City 0-5 Peamount

Cork City fell to a 5-0 defeat against Peamount United in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game at Turner’s Cross on Saturday.

Peamount got off to the ideal start as they took the lead through a good run down the left wing and cut inside by Dearbhaile Beirne set herself up for a great curling strike into the top right corner of the net to give the visitors the ideal start. They followed this up in the 11th minute when Eleanor Ryan Doyle released Stephanie Roche in behind the city defence and she finished well to give Peamount a 2-0 lead early.

City started coming into the game as the first half progressed with Sarah McKevitt hitting the crossbar with a great strike from just outside the box in the 13th minute. She again came close in the 26th minute as a good attacking City move let her free down the right wing but her effort was just wide of the post. City continued to press for the remainder of the first half but struggled to create much in the way of real chances.

City continued to press for a goal back at the start of the second half with Dring coming closest but as the second half went on Peamount upped the tempo putting increasing pressure on the City defence until they got their third goal in the 77th minute with good build up work from Stephanie Roche and Lauren Kelly setting up Sadbh Doyle to put it away from close range.

Stephanie Roche got Peamounts fourth taking advantage of a mix-up in the City defence to make It 4-0. Sadbh Doyle got the Visitor’s final goal finishing off a good Peamount move from close range to give Peamount all three points.

City are back in action Wednesday evening 4th of August as they visit Jackman Park to play Treaty United with a 7.45pm kick off.
