WNL: City 2-1 Bohemians

Goals from Aoife Cronin and Becky Cassin gave Cork City their first win of the season as they beat Bohemians 2-1 in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game at Turners Cross on Saturday.

The visitors got off to a bright start hitting the post with an effort with an effort from Isobel Finnegan from the edge of the box in the second minute. City however started getting chances of their own as Eva Mangan played in a ball for Becky Cassin who hit it just wide in the seventh minute.

City continued to press with Nadine Seward having an effort saved after a good run and cut inside from the right wing, and Lauren Singleton had an effort saved from the edge of the box. At the other end Abby McCarthy had to be alert to keep an effort from Kira Bates Crosbie out and the first half finished all square.

The second half started quiet with few chances at the start of it, City came close in the 58th minute as Eva Mangan had a shot from distance saved. City took the lead in the 74th minute as Eva Mangan sent a ball through for second half substitute Christina Dring who got into the box and passed it to Aoife Cronin who put it away to give City a 1-0 lead.

City doubled their lead in the 83rd minute as a great run from Nathalie O’Brien down the right wing into the box where she sent a ball across goal which Becky Cassin pushed home to give City a 2-0 lead. Bohemians gave themselves a way back into the game 87th minute as a mix-up at the back allowed them to get one back but City held out to win 2-1.

City are next in action on the 16th of April as they visit Ferrycarrig Park to face Wexford Youths in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League with a 6pm kick off.
