WNL: Wexford 5-1 CCFC

Cork City fell to a 5-1 defeat against Wexford Youth’s at Ferrycarrig Park in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game.

The hosts got off to the perfect start in the third minute as Kylie Murphy played through Ellen Molloy who got behind the City defence to slot it home from close range giving Wexford an early 1-0 lead. Molloy was again on the scoresheet in the 14th minute as an accurate ball from Orlaith Conlon found Molloy who beat the offside trap rounded Abby McCarthy in the City goal and slotted home to double the hosts lead.

Ellen Molloy sealed her hat-trick in the 17th minute as she was found on the edge of the City penalty area and struck home well into the top right corner of the net to make it 3-0 to Wexford. City pulled one back as a cross from the right wing from Zara Foley found the onrushing Becky Cassin who headed home to make it 3-1.

Wexford however continued to press forward and restored their three goal lead in the 40th minute as Ellen Molloy turned provider sending Kylie Murphy through who beat the offside trap and slotted home to make it 4-1. Murphy got her second to finish the scoring for Wexford in the 60th minute as she headed home a corner to make it 5-1 to Wexford which it finished.

Cork City are back in action next Saturday 23rd of April as they travel to Greenogue to face Peamount United in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League with a 5pm kick off.
