Nathalie O’Brien departs City

We can confirm that Nathalie O’Brien has left Cork City, after 11 years.

Nathalie leaves as the longest serving player at the club, having been involved since the first season of the WNL 2011/2012. She became the first player to reach 100 appearances for City, and she departs having made almost 200 appearances overall.

She featured in two cup finals – against Peamount in Tallaght Stadium in 2020, and she played a starring role as City defeated UCD Waves to become FAI Cup Champions at the Aviva Stadium in 2017.

Ciara McNamara has played with Nathalie for the last decade, and said:  “She was there to guide and advise us through the highs and lows, The club and team wouldn’t be there today only for people like her”

Dan Burke describes her as an inspiration, saying “The women’s side would be nothing without her, she inspires everybody to be better and is a role model with her passion for the club, a total legend!”

City boss, Danny Murphy also praised the departing O’Brien, saying “Nat has been a great servant to the club, a brilliant person and a real role model to any young girl looking to achieve their dreams. I, and everyone at Cork City, wish her the very best of luck in whatever she does in the future”

As well as representing City, Nat featured in the Deaf Futsal Champions League for Doncaster and was named Player of the Tournament in 2019. On the international stage, She continues to represent Ireland and will play in the World Cup in Brazil later this year.

Nat has been an incredible servant to the club and rightly leaves as a Club Legend, with the best wishes of everyone at City!
