WPD Preview: Shamrock Rovers vs City
On Saturday, April 29th, City were defeated 3-1 by Bohemians at Turner’s Cross in the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division. After trailing 1-0 at half time Cristina Dring equalised shortly after the interval. Bohs regained the lead on the hour mark and scored the final goal of the game in the 70th minute. Manager Danny Murphy spoke on the performance. “Disappointing result last week. We done some really good things against Bohs. We struggled to create anything in the final third. The three goals we gave away are all three goals we could do better with”. “For the first goal we shouldn’t have been in the position to give the freekick away. The second goal we could let the ball go out for a goal kick and (we) concede from the corner. The Third goal was just a mistake by 3 or 4 people and it led to them having an opportunity to score”. “That’s the story of us as a club so far (this season) we consistently make those mistakes”. Next up is a trip to Tallaght Stadium to take on third place Shamrock Rovers this Saturday. Rovers have put six past Treaty United and four past Bohs at home this season. Their other home game was a narrow 2-1 victory against Wexford Youths. City will aim to be the first team to defeat Rovers this season. City will be looking to add to the point they have secured on the road so far this campaign at the end of March against Treaty United. Rovers have scored 12 goals at home so far this season conceding just one. A big part of that is due to their Player of the Month for April, defender Jess Hennessy. The Westmeath native signed for rovers last December having previously played for Athlone Town. “We’re not going there to sit back and defend. We’re going to go up and enjoy it. If you give them too much respect, they’ll make you look a very poor side. We’ve got to go up there and not give them any respect and get after them” Manger Danny Murphy stated on the upcoming game. The game will be shown live on LOITV.ie with a 5.30pm kick-off. For those travelling to support, Gates open 4:30pm. West Stand Only. Additional stands will be opened as required. Ticket Prices: Adult €10 Senior/Student €7 Child U12 €5 For disabled seating, please contact tickets@shamrockrovers.ie
