WPD Preview: City vs Wexford Youths
It’s been a chance to regroup for Cork City FC Women’s Manager Danny Murphy and his players as they return to SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division action after a two-week break. Wexford Youths are the visitors to Turners Cross for Saturdays 5pm kick-off and Murphy feels the break will help after the home defeat to Sligo Rovers last time out. “It was a disappointing result last time at home. We had last weekend off to get some things right go over some things in training, implement some things where we feel we need to improve. We felt after the Shamrock Rovers game we would be moving in the right direction. All of us as a staff and as a group of players were disappointed with the result and we’ll put things right. That’s what we spoke about during the week”. “We have to work hard and stick together when things are going good, when things are going not so well, put what happened behind us and try get a positive result”. The task doesn’t get any easier as Wexford Youths come to town, though the side sit lower in the table than they are used to, with just four wins and twelve goals scored in the current campaign. “Wexford are good side. They’re probably not had a great run of results in the last couple of weeks. They’re going to be coming down to us thinking this is a good time for them to get a result, but we have to be looking at the game thinking it’s a good time for us to catch them also, to get a positive result ourselves and start moving in the right direction.” Our most recent meeting saw 18-year-old Republic of Ireland International Ellen Molloy bag a hat trick when the sides met in Ferrycarrig Park. Unfortunately for Youths and for Irish football fans Molloy is currently recovering from a knee injury. Rianna Jarrett is a doubt for Wexford Youths this weekend, which is likely good news for City as the 16 times capped Irish International has been a shining light for Youths since her return from England where she had spells with Brighton and Hove Albion and London City Lionesses. She has four goals so far during this campaign. Robert Augnier
