Recap

Cork City fell to a 5-0 defeat at home to Peamount United in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game at Turner’s Cross on Saturday.

City started the game well pushing back Peamount and having a good opportunity to take the lead through Lauren Singleton shot but was saved at the near post by Niamh Reid-Burke. Peamount started to grow into the game pushing the City defence back and came close to taking the lead in the 35th minute but a fine save from Abby McCarthy kept the game level. Peamount did take the lead in the 39th minute as Aine O’Gorman applied a cool finish from close range after a good cross into the box to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break.

City came out strong in the second half nearly levelling the game through Christina Dring in the 57th minute as she had an effort from the edge of the box that was blocked out for a corner. Peamount doubled their advantage in the 71st minute as they worked the ball into the box and found Aine O’Gorman who finished well from inside the box. This was swiftly followed in the 73rd minute by a goal from Stephanie Roche who fired it home from the edge of the box.

Peamount made it four in the 81st minute as they first had an effort crash off the crossbar but Alannah McEvoy managed to get on the rebound and finished well. Peamount rounded out the game with a late goal in the 93rd minute from Jess Fitzgerald to make it 5-0 to the visitors at full time.
