Recap

Cork City 0-1 Bohemians

Cork City fell to a late 1-0 defeat against Bohemians in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game at Turner’s Cross on Saturday.

The first half was a quiet affair with few chances but Bohemians started to press the advantage early on hitting the crossbar in the 13th minute with an effort from Sinead Taylor. At the other end City tried to press forward with Laura Shine in particular making good runs into dangerous area’s but a stubborn and resilient Bohemians defence prevented any clear-cut chances. Abby McCarthy made an excellent save to keep the sides level in the 39th minute as Chloe Darby hit from distance but McCarthy tipped it over the bar and the first half finished 0-0.

Bohemians in the second half continued to press the City defence as Sinead Taylor made a good run through the City backline but McCarthy was alert to the danger and cleared it to prevent the chance. City came close as a great ball from Zara Foley found Laura Shine who got in behind the Bohemians defence but her effort was well saved. An Eva Mangan free kick in the 68th minute found the head of Kelly Leahy but her effort just went over the top corner of the net.

As the game seemed destined to be a 0-0 draw Bohemians got the winner in the 90th minute as Rachel Doyle found Abbie Brophy free who worked her way into the right side of the penalty area and struck powerfully to put it in the net to give the visitors a 1-0 victory at full time.

Cork City will have their final game of the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League 2022 Season next Saturday 29th of October as they travel to Markets Field to play Treaty United with a 5.20pm kick off.
