Cobh Ramblers vs Cork City
Cork City comfortably overcame the challenge of Cobh Ramblers in their friendly game in St Colmans Park. After what was an emotional day for everyone associated with the club it was lovely to see a minutes silence impeccably observed in memory of City’s Mother Goose, Noelle Feeney.
City started the game with three trialists, B & C on either wing with Trialist A up front and he lived up to his top billing after just three minutes when he coolly slotted in Karl Sheppard’s cross.
City created a few further chances in the first half with Trialist B crossing for Trialist A but the Ramblers keeper Paul Hunt was equal to the header. Ramblers barely threatened the City goal at all but kept City to just the one goal during the opening 45.
Having picked up a knock in the first half, Trialist C was replaced by Conor McCormack at half time.
With barely a minute gone in the second half City extended their lead, a Shane Griffin corner was only half cleared and dropped invitingly at the feet of Karl Sheppard who didn’t need asking twice providing a clinical finish.
City put the game to bed a mere 4 minutes later when Sheppard was taken down by Mylod in the box and with the remaining trialists contemplating which one of them would take the resulting spot kick. Sheppard dusted himself down and sent the keeper the wrong way.
Four further changes saw City still dominate possession but fail to add to their total. The best goal of the night was kept until last when on 82 minutes, Jason Abbott curled a 25 yarder into the top corner past a helpless McNulty.
