Finn Harps vs Cork City
|21/08/17||19:15||SSE Airtricity League||2017|
A second half strike from Garry Buckley proved the difference at Finn Park, as Cork City recorded a 1-0 in Donegal.
After a nip and tuck opening quarter, City began to impose themselves on the game as the first half wore on and Kieran Sadlier fired narrowly wide with the away side’s first real sight of goal. Karl Sheppard was next to threaten as Sadlier crossed but his flick lacked power. Gearóid Morrissey went even closer then, as he headed Beattie’s cross just over the bar.
Ten minutes before the break, Sadlier was next to try his luck as he planted a header on target but the keeper pushed it over the bar. Keohane had City’s next chance, as be got his head to a Sadlier cross but he couldn’t direct it on target and the sides went in level at the break.
City continued the second half as they had ended the first and Karl Sheppard again worked the keeper just shy of the hour mark with a header from close range. The deadlock was finally broken with 20 minutes to go, as Buckley fired home from close range. A corner was half cleared and, when Steven Beattie crossed, Ryan Delaney saw his header strike the post with Buckley reacting quickest to poke home from close range.
With the away side now ahead, Finn Harps tried to muster an attacking threat but City were well-organised and a real threat on the counter. Connor Ellis replaced Sadlier, and he was put through on the keeper twice late on but was unable to add to City’s lead. Garry Buckley could have sealed the tie in injury time when great work by Keohane presented him with a shooting chance but he fired over.
