Recap
Cork City left the Brandywell with a point after a scoreless draw with Derry City tonight.
City boss John Caulfield made one change from the side that started against Limerick last Saturday with Shane Griffin starting in place of Steven Beattie.
The home side had the first chance of the game, Ronan Curtis heading over from Jack Doyle’s cross. Jimmy Keohane sent his 25-yard shot over the bar shortly after. Doyle himself came close to scoring for Derry but his shot flew just past the upright.
In what was an exciting first half, Alan Bennett tried his luck from a well-worked set-piece but he headed over from Colm Horgan’s cross.
Conor McDermott came close for the Candystripes after the restart. His shot from distance forced an excellent save from McNulty.
Steven Beattie was introduced from the bench and made an immediate impact down the right flank. His cross set up fellow substitute Josh O’Hanlon but the striker couldn’t convert from close range. Kieran Sadlier, also brought on in the second half, followed up the rebound but Gerard Doherty saved well.
Keohane was close to snatching the three points for City on two occasions, first missing out on Beattie’s cross from the right and then firing over shortly after with the goal at his mercy.
A flurry of goal-mouth action ensued as the fourth official signalled for three minutes of additional time. Aaron McEneff’s cross-come-shot fired off the post and into McNulty’s grasp much to the relief of the Leesiders. Down the other end, City pushed for the winner and Sean McLoughlin headed over from a corner.
