Cork City came from behind to record a vital win at the RSC tonight.
In what was an open and entertaining game, both sides traded chances before the home side hit the front just after the half hour. After a long ball over the top, Noel Hunt worked his way in from the left and found the bottom corner via a deflection off Sean McLoughlin.
City hit back immediately, as they equalised within a minute through Garry Buckley. A ball forward found Graham Cummins who showed good awareness to cushion the ball into the path of Buckley and he slotted home calmly.
Within ten minutes of the restart, City were ahead. A quick counter attack saw Buckley drive at the heart of the home defence and, after turning back inside, he brought a good save from Connor but Cummins was on hand to tuck away the rebound.
Another good attack from John Caulfield’s men midway through the half culminated in Cummins finding the net with a tidy finish, but his celebrations were halted by the assistant’s flag.
Buckley came close to getting his second less than five minutes later when he cut back inside and curled an effort just outside the post.
The home side threw everything forward in the closing stages, but City showed resilience in the face of that pressure to hold out for the win.
