Cork City fell to a 4-0 defeat against Shelbourne today at the AUL in Dublin in their latest Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League game.
The first half had few chances with both sides having possession of the ball. Alex Kavanagh had an early effort which was easily gathered by City goalkeeper Eve Badana in the 8th minute while Badana had to make an excellent save to tip a Roma McLoughlin shot onto the crossbar to keep the scores level in the 23rd minute. There was a large stoppage in play at the end of the first half as Shelbourne player Roma McLoughlin received treatment for an injury.
Shelbourne began the second half much the stronger and scored the opening goal in the 53rd minute as Jess Gleeson headed home from a corner. This was followed on the hour mark when Isibeal Atkinson made it 2-0 when she put away a free kick from outside the box. City brought on Kate O’Donovan replacing Hannah O’Donoghue on 66 to try and get back into the game but had their hopes of a comeback ended when two quick fire goals from Leanne Kiernan and Noelle Murray in the 70 and 72nd minute to make it 4-0.
City brought on Christina Dring for Saoirse Noonan and Mary Barrett for Nathalie O’Brien. Eve Badana made two great saves on 79 and 87 to keep it at 4-0. Danielle Sheehy almost got a consolation goal but her effort was saved and the game ended 4-0 to Shelbourne LFC.
