Cork City and Limerick shared the points at Markets Field on Sunday as they played out a 0-0 draw in the Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League.

Limerick had the brighter start of the two sides in the first half as City struggled to find their rhythm. Megan Kelleher came close with a header from a Sylvia Gee free kick but it went just wide. Marie Curtin had an effort from distance which also went wide of the post.

City started to get into the game and Eadaoin Lyons got one on one with Limerick goalkeeper Trish Fennelly who made the save to deny City the opening goal. In the 32nd minute Katie McCarthy made a good run down the right wing and her cross found Danielle Sheehy but her header was just wide of the mark. In added time at the end of the first half Saoirse Noonan set Eadaoin Lyons free but the effort was cleared and the first half finished 0-0.

City began the second half much stronger than the first with Danielle Sheehy coming close with an effort that skimmed the post but went wide. City had the ball in the net in the 55th minute through Michelle O’Driscoll but it was disallowed for an infringement on goalkeeper Trish Fennelly. Danielle Sheehy came close again with an effort from the edge of the box which went just over the bar.

City brought on Christina Dring and Hannah O’Donoghue for Eadaoin Lyons and Amy McCormack. There were few real chances in the rest of the game Lauren Keane tested Amanda Budden with a snapshot but the City keeper was alert to the danger. Perhaps the best chance fell to Danielle Burke after a great Saoirse Noonan cross found her but her effort was mishit and came to nothing and the game petered out to a 0-0 draw.

City again play Limerick next Sunday 3rd of June as they host them at Bishopstown in the rescheduled Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League Development Shield first round match with a 2pm kick off.
