Cork City fell to a 3-0 defeat against Galway WFC in their latest Continental Tyre’s Women’s National League match at Eamon Deacy Park on Saturday.

City had the first effort of the match as Savannah McCarthy had a shot from distance which went narrowly wide however Galway soon started to apply pressure on the City goal with Eve Badana forced into making a good save in the 6th minute. The pressure told however in the 13th minute as Emma Starr broke the deadlock giving Galway a 1-0 lead.

Galway continued to apply pressure throughout the first half and City struggled to create chances at the other end, the pressure told in the 41st minute as Galway doubled their lead through Lynsey McKey applying the finishing touch to a good attacking move.

City brought on Saoirse Noonan for Maggie Duncliffe for the second half and City started to show more in attack with a strong start to the second half having most of the possession and applying pressure on the Galway defence without creating a real shot on goal. Galway however ended the game as a contest in the 71st minute as Chloe Singleton ended City’s attempted comeback.

City continued to apply pressure to try and get at least a consolation goal and brought on new signing Riona Crowley for her senior Women’s National League debut. City came close to getting on the scoresheet late as a Saoirse Noonan shot beat the Galway goalkeeper but was denied by the post and the effort bounced back and saved by Tina Hughes and the game finished 3-0 to Galway.
