FORAS has been connected with member-run clubs, supporters trusts and international organisations across the UK and Europe since its foundations in 2008, and regularly welcomes visitors to Turner’s Cross.
FORAS was the lead organisation in Ireland during the Improving Football Governance through Supporter Involvement and Community Ownership preparatory action (2012-13). The project was led by Niamh O’Mahony and Shane Tobin and saw FORAS host a workshop for League of Ireland supporters in Cork before preparing the Heart of the Game governance handbook, which was launched in Dáil Éireann. The project also led to the creation of the Irish Supporters Network – a federal cooperative of Irish cooperative football clubs and supporters trusts.
Cork City FC and the Irish Supporters Network were next involved in the Clubs and Supporters for Better Governance in Football Erasmus+ project, which was co-funded by UEFA. Project activites were led by John Kennedy and Mike Derham, along with Niamh O’Mahony who managed the project on behalf of SD Europe. During the project, the club attended workshops on good governance, sustainable finance and member engagement and was paired with Schalke 04, Malmo FF and FC United of Manchester for a series of exchange visits. The project’s final report can be downloaded here.
