Noel O’Mahony’s Cork City side narrowly missed out on a league title following a final day defeat to Dundalk. Tom McNulty’s goal cost the Leesider’s their first championship, with City needing only a draw in the title decider. Second place earned City a place in the UEFA Cup for the following season.
Limerick and Bohemians knocked City out of the League Cup and FAI Cup respectively, but the Munster Cup was secured with a 3-0 win over Limerick on the last day of the season.
Note 1: Galway United F.C. qualified for the 1991–92 European Cup Winners’ Cup after winning the 1990–91 FAI Cup final.
